AnyPS5 errors: what each one means and how to fix it

Pre-alpha software fails a lot, and the failure messages are terse. This page decodes the common AnyPS5 startup errors on Windows and Linux — what each code actually means, the real fix, and the warnings that what you downloaded was never AnyPS5 at all.

Quick answer

Error 126 = a DLL/module the loader can't find (usually Vulkan driver/loader). Error 193 = you ran a 64-bit build on 32-bit Windows or vice versa. Instant-exit with no code is often just pre-alpha behavior — read the log. And if your 'installer' wanted a survey or antivirus disabled, it was malware.

Windows error 126 — "The specified module could not be found"

Error 126 is Windows' ERROR_MOD_NOT_FOUND: the program tried to load a dynamic library and failed. With AnyPS5-class software it is almost always the Vulkan loader or a GPU driver DLL, not a file you should download from a random "DLL site".

Fix order:

Windows error 193 — "%1 is not a valid Win32 application"

Error 193 is ERROR_BAD_EXE_FORMAT: an architecture mismatch. You are either running the 64-bit build on 32-bit Windows, or the file itself is corrupt/incomplete.

Fix: confirm your Windows is 64-bit (Settings → System → About), re-download the correct artifact from the official Releases page, and re-extract fully — interrupted downloads produce exactly this error.

It starts and exits instantly with no error

At the v0.1.x stage this is usually expected behavior: the build initializes, logs its status, and exits. It is not a bug you can fix — it is the project's current state.

What to actually do:

"Your CPU does not support AVX2" / immediate crash on launch

AnyPS5 requires AVX2, FMA and F16C CPU instructions. Older CPUs (pre-Haswell Intel, pre-Excavator AMD) lack them, and no settings tweak will help — the instruction set is silicon.

Confirm with CPU-Z or HWiNFO. If your CPU lacks AVX2, AnyPS5 cannot run on that machine, full stop. The same wall applies to F16C support on some older chips.

Vulkan 1.1 errors and GPU driver failures

Current builds target Vulkan 1.1. Failures here look like missing-device errors at startup or shader-pipeline panics in the log.

Out of memory / extreme slowness

The reported RAM requirement is about 13.5 GB (13824 MiB). On 8 GB machines you will see failures or disk-thrashing. Close everything else, or run on a 16 GB machine. There is no magic setting that shrinks this at the current stage.

How to recognize a fake installer

The AnyPS5 name is being abused heavily. A real build never:

Any of those means malware. Delete it, and get the real thing from the official repository's Releases page only. If you already ran one: disconnect from the network, run a full antivirus scan, and change passwords from a different device.

Where to report a real bug

Bugs go to the official project's GitHub issue tracker — include your GPU model, driver version, CPU, RAM, OS, the build number, and the full log output. "It doesn't work" reports with no log are closed quickly; logs get answers.

Frequently asked questions

What is Windows error 126 in AnyPS5?

It means a required module (usually the Vulkan loader or a GPU driver DLL) could not be found. Fix it by updating your GPU driver and Vulkan runtime — never by downloading DLLs from random websites.

What does error 193 mean?

It is a 32-bit/64-bit mismatch: the build you ran does not match your Windows architecture, or the download was incomplete. Re-download the correct 64-bit artifact from the official repository.

Why does AnyPS5 close immediately after opening?

At the pre-alpha stage most builds log their status and exit by design — there is no playable game yet. Check the console log and the official README status section rather than assuming a crash.

Is it safe to download missing DLLs from DLL websites?

No. It is one of the most common malware infection routes. Missing system modules should come from official providers only: your GPU vendor, or Microsoft's redistributables.

How do I know if my AnyPS5 download is fake?

Real builds are plain archives from the official GitHub Releases page. Surveys, custom installers, 'launchers', antivirus-disabling instructions, or payment requests all mean malware.

Error-code meanings are standard Windows diagnostics applied to AnyPS5's documented requirements (checked October 16, 2026). This site hosts no software and is not affiliated with the AnyPS5 project.
